Baby Shower Fun
I threw a baby shower last weekend for a friend who is having a little girl in September. It was so much fun to put together and create the decor. Yellow, pink and orange were the main colors and onesies were used as the main decor elements. I found that buying a themed pack of scrapbooking paper was a cheap and easy way to get multiple patterns that all went together. I used the paper to make the invites, bunting and to put on the food tables for a little added color. I think it all came together great and it was fun to decorate in girly colors for a few hours. A huge thanks to my friend Amanda who helped out with some of the details as well as a few other friends who helped out with the food!
Here is what the invite looked like. The onesies were cut out by hand. I made one as a template to start, then used it to trace all of the others. Info is blocked out for privacy reasons, but there would be type in place of the 3 color bars at the bottom.
Amanda made these clothespins which were used for a game. Everyone gets one to pin on their shirt and there are 3 words you cannot say throughout the shower. If you catch someone saying one of the words, you get to take their pin. The person with the most at the end of the shower wins.

Instead of traditional games, we opted to have a mini craft day instead!

In keeping with the onesie decor, we used fabric glue and various fabrics to design onesies.

Yay! So lovely! And such a fun time. You did such a great job.
I just wanted to thank you for the hard work you all did to put together Jessica's baby shower. It was so much fun and it makes me feel good to know that Jessica has such wonderful friends and coworkers. Thanks again Amy.
Love this idea, and everything looks great! Did you include ideas or stencils for the onesie decorating? And do you mind sharing where you found the onesie paper punch? You are very talented!
We decorated the onesies just by cutting out fabric and piecing it together. No stencils used, just our creativity. It was a pretty talented group of girls! And I actually didn't use a paper punch. I cut all of those onesies out by hand for the invites! I made one to start then used it to trace all of the others. You could probably find a basic shape online, print it out and use it to trace others. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the reply! I just love these ideas (and I just cut out 60 individual onesies this weekend for a similar invitation!).
So beautiful. I think the onesie idea is fantastic because it acts as another gift for the mom-to-be. The next shower I'm hosting is a mixed-couples shower, so this might not go over so well with the men, but I'll keep it in mind :-)
I am thinking of doing the onesie craft for a shower I am hosting. Did you do anything to make sure the fabric didn't fray around the edges after you cut it?
Pam, We didn't do anything fancy, just cut the fabric with sharp fabric scissors. We weren't planning on them getting used too much, and if anything they might just be decoration. You might try doing a line of glue around the edges after you glue the piece down. I haven't tried that, so I can't promise anything, but that's the best suggestion I have. If you figure out something that works well, please share!
This is such a wonderful idea! This is a lovely party! It looks like everything is edible!!! pastel candy, yummmy
What brand of onesies did you use? I'd love to use this idea at my sister's shower, but I want to find onesies that won't irritate Baby's skin and won't irritate my budget! ;)
L, We just used basic short sleeve white ones. You might be able to find organic cotton ones these days. That sort of thing seems to be popping up everywhere! Since I don't have children myself, I don't really have any resources for you. Sorry!
what a beautiful idea. (I am totally gonna use this for my friend's shower. )
PS I think we have a lot in common. You should check out my blog: www.loveinhabit.com
I would love it if you would follow me (I am trying to get 100 followers by 2012)
Hope to see you soon! Lets get ideas from each other!

This is greatness! I love all the cute little onesies. I need my hostesses to do this. So cute!
i like it what a great idea.
This is such a great idea for a baby shower! Thank you so much for this inspiration!
Nice photos too!
If I ever host a baby shower I want it to be like this one. How creative and visual. LOVE this idea! I'm thinking of variations of it even now. Thanks for sharing!
How did you happen to make the rose buds? I LOVE those!!!
Magen, they're pretty easy. Cut out six circles all the same size. Using one as your base, fold the rest into 4ths and attach. The last one will just attach to the center. It's probably easier to understand with photos though, so try searching for fabric or felt flower tutorials. Hope it helps!
I'm so excited to host my sister's baby shower after seeing all these amazing ideas - I really like the clothespins!
On an unrelated note, where did you find the dish you used for the M&M's? It's beautiful!
Thanks Amy! Can't wait to try making those. Thanks for the post!
Katie, the M&M dish is vintage milk glass. They're pretty easy to find at any thrift store or antique mall and usually cheap! I got mine for $2 I think! Good luck!
The onsies are very cute. I am not that creative to know where to get pictures or designs to make them. Any info you could share would be greatly appreciated
Kim, we just cut shapes out of fabric and formed the designs! We didn't do anything fancy, just used our imaginations! It was a creative group, but if you need inspiration try looking at magazines or just think of objects related to babies. Hope it helps!
This is a great idea. I have been looking at doing something like this for my sister when/if she ever has a baby! Any idea on how to keep costs down? I would think that buying all that fabric, buttons, thread, glue, scissors, etc would start to add up quick.
