I'm a designer and DIY lover, daydreaming of things to create. This is my collection of projects, inspiration and photography. It's always an adventure as I tackle new projects and continue to tweak things I've already "finished."

A DIY Fall Mantel

I'm actually excited about Fall this year, which is not normal for me as I really love summer. I'm embracing it this year though and I think that has contributed to my early Fall decorating. Last year I didn't get to it very early and I missed out on enjoying a lot of it.

DIY 1: If you remember, I mentioned a trip to Goodwill looking for some candlesticks. I chose based on shape, not color and walked out spending less than $5. Spray paint can change the look of almost anything, so don't pass up something just because you don't like the color.

We already had black spray paint on hand, so I spray painted the gold and clear candlesticks to create a set of 3. Now they work together, but the different shapes create variety.

The silver candlestick was saved from the spray paint and makes a great little pumpkin pedestal on the left side.

DIY 2: black and white framed photos. I went through my photos and found two that I liked, then printed them off in black and white. I took some frames that I had lying around, put the photos in them and had an instant DIY. Leaning them against the wall is an easy way to keep them casual and easy to change out.

Photo tip: For those of you who say you aren't photo talented, fear not. Try taking some photos of tree branches, leaves or anything that reminds you of Fall. If you are pairing two photos together try one that is a little more zoomed out and one that focuses in on a single detail, such as an individual leaf. The different focal lengths will add depth to your display.
